Research Scientist
Research Scientist Metabolic Engineering │ Synthetic Biology │ Microbiology Who we are FGen is an emerging Swiss biotech company active in the field of biological engineering and high throughput experimentation. We collaborate globally with biotech companies for the development of efficient microbial strains using our proprietary nanoliter-rector screening platform for the phenotypic analysis of large cell libraries. FGen is located in the life science city Basel, Switzerland, and we are looking for a research scientist (PhD) to complement our international team. Who you are You are an open-minded team player that wants to actively participate in the development of an innovative biotech company. You have successfully concluded your PhD in the field of metabolic engineering or synthetic biology and you have already gained some post-graduation experience in industry or academia. You should also be eager to learn the business-related aspects of research partnerships. Qualifications: • Strong background in metabolic engineering and synthetic biology • Minimum of two years post-doc experience in industry or academia • Extensive hands-on experience with molecular biology and microbiological methods • Skilled in data analysis including the use of statistical methods • Excellent project management skills with the ability to set the right priorities • Open personality with high social competence • Experienced in presentation and communication of scientific results • Knowledge of Asian language and culture is a plus • Interested in the application of bioinformatic tools, such as AI, for strain development • Familiarity with fluorescent assay development and flow cytometry is a plus Responsibilities: • Responsibility for planning and execution of research collaborations that FGen has with industrial partners • Collaborate in small project teams to reach project goals, supervise and guide less experience team members • Analysis and interpretation of experimental results including presentation to collaboration partners • Contribute to the continuous development of new methods and technologies in biological engineering and to the construction of proprietary strains • Participate in the elaboration of research proposals for industrial partners • Support colleagues in ongoing troubleshooting and improvement of workflows What you give You are willing to contribute with your expertise and personality to the success of an emerging biotech company. We collaborate with industrial partners for the development of microbial cell factories. Key to our unique way to design efficient cells is our proprietary nanoliter-rector screening platform. Who you are You are an open-minded team player that wants to do a bachelor/master thesis or internship at an exciting biotech start-up company. You perform your studies in the field of biological sciences and you know fundamental molecular biology and microbiological techniques or you are familiar with cell biology and biochemical methods. What you give You are willing to spend at least 6 months in the charming city of Basel and you are eager to share and discuss innovative ideas. You will be responsible for a small project, which we will be selected according to your background and which will be described in detail after your application has been accepted.
