Monitoring Liver Health non-invasive

We are developing a small and energy-efficient sensor that can sense Bilirubin non-invasive using a light-based approach. Bilirubin is an essential Biomarker in a broad range of diseases, including Hepatitis, Malaria, neonate jaundice, or drug-induced hepatoxicity, with more than 1 Billion patients worldwide. Existing devices such as the Dräger Jaundice Meter or the Philips Bilicheck are not suitable for adults, fail to discriminate both diagnostically relevant forms of bilirubin and must be operated by a healthcare professional. Also, these devices do not offer online data collection. Our sensor is small and energy-efficient enough to be integrated into a wearable device such as a smartwatch, allowing a method for remote patient monitoring that requires no further user interaction.
